What the Falk?
The boy doesn’t just write, he draws too. A couple of years ago, my friend David Thomas wanted me to a webcomic. At the time, I wasn’t sure that I could deliver the goods. Whilst I had produced a Benny and Burke comic strip for Planet Ace’s Illuminations, the web’s a bit different in how you deliver stuff. Nonetheless, we set out to produce a site called What the Falk?
This was based on the fact that I am unnaturally fond of Peter Falk, particularly in his guise as Columbo. We were going to do strips that played off the comic elements of that character, and various other TV detectives like Bergerac. However, before we got far I decided that I couldn’t draw any more. The problem being that because it was meant to be Falk, I wanted it to look like Falk and began to draw more and more realistically.
But what we really wanted was to produce something more like what Jamie Smart does.
At any rate, what was done, lacklustre as it is, is presented below. Evidence sandwich is easily the best, and we never got around to doing Zombie Morse (”Lew-is!! Brains!!”) which is a disaster I seek to rectify…

Bergerac is forced to realise that his ex-father-in-law, Charlie is responsible for all the crime on Jersey.
I worked with no photo reference for the Bergerac strips and somehow John Nettles ended up looking like Chris Ecclestone. It was around this time that I decided to stop drawing forever. It lasted about a year.
